#1 of my 2022 52 Hike Challenge

Trail/Park: Clifton E. French Regional Park
Distance: 2.8 miles

This hike took place on the traditional territory of the Wahpekute and Očhéthi Šakówiŋ. The annual Women Who Hike First Day Hike is one of my favorite ways to bring in the new year. Today was no exception. Nothing like getting up to below-zero temperatures. -12 degrees Fahrenheit to be exact. I joined 13 other women in the parking lot at Clifton E. French Regional Park for an easy loop through the snow-covered park. Bundled to the point many of us didn’t recognize each other at first, it was fun rediscovering each other as we got moving.

The clear sky and bright sun helped our spirits along with the chatter of getting to know each other. My friend Jen had picked the park for it’s easy and relatively flat trail. We did a bit of “off-road” hiking and picked a few side trails that took us up some small hills to mix things up. It was great catching up with Jodi who I hadn’t seen in two years. I loved the sound of snow crunching under my boots. We talked about our hopes for 2022, gear and our favorite trails. I was having so much fun and it was so cold I had to rely on the expert skills of Jen to capture one picture of all us together.

I left the short hike feeling rejuvinated and ready to take on a new year of hiking and adventure. I hope my post hike, red-faced photo speaks to the joy I’m going to reclaim this year. No matter what life throws my way. What did you to usher in the New Year?

Next Post Preview: I’ll be recapping a few more adventures from 2021. Which one? Check back to find out!
